[Classes 72 and 82 (i)] In the production of iron or iron alloys from iron-bearing residues obtained in the pressure hydrogenization of carbonaceous materials, particularly coals, the oily matter is removed from the residues by filtration, centrifuging or low temperature carbonization at about 500‹ C, in such a manner that sufficient oily matter remains as is required for the reduction of the compounds and the residues are then reduced in a blast furnace or by one of the known processes producing an iron poor in carbon. When other metallic catalysts such as molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium or cobalt or their compounds are used in the hydrogenation in addition to iron, iron alloys containing these elements are produced by the treatment of residues from such hydrogenization process.</p> |
