The engine (1) has a housing (2) comprising a cylinder crankcase (3) and a cylinder head (4), where the crankcase and the head comprise separate water jackets (9, 10) and/or cooling water circuits (11, 12). A ventilation main sewer (20) is recessed within the housing, and connects geodetically high locations of the water jacket and/or cooling water circuit of the cylinder crankcase with a vent (22) at an outer side of the cylinder head or an outer side (15) of the cylinder crankcase of the housing. The main sewer runs in a longitudinal direction of the housing.
