<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fabric having a branched portion and a method of organizing a branched portion having a good appearance and appropriate strength when left and right stitches cross each other at the branched portion where the fabric is branched into a left part and a right part on the way of a knitting width. <P>SOLUTION: When a fabric is branched into a left part and a right part at a branched portion by the use of a flat-knitting machine, stitches are formed at the front side in the region of the branched portion and the number of stitches are increased with an empty needle at the back side in the region of the branched portion. On this occasion, the increased stitches are connected to the front side stitches facing the increased stitches. New stitches are formed for the increased stitches. At the front side, left side stitches and right side stitches, both of which sandwich the branched portion, do not cross each other.
