<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lost article management system with which the identification of an owner of a lost article is easily confirmed when the lost article is returned to the owner. <P>SOLUTION: A lost article management system includes a storage unit to store lost article data obtained by associating tag identification information IDt on a tag 1 having readable tag identification information IDt with authentication identification information IDn contained in a portable authentication medium 2 and comprising an IC chip that has authentication identification information IDn consisting of at least either of identification information for identifying the medium or identification information for confirming the identity of the owner of the medium.
