The plate (1) has covering- and central layers (2, 3) formed from wood, where the central layer is glued with the covering layers. A wood fiber direction (9) of the covering layers runs perpendicular to a wood fiber direction of the central layer in edge areas of the plate. Two elongate side surfaces (10) of the central layer are recessed with respect to the front surfaces (7) of the covering layers. A solid wood strip (4) is provided in a recess (8), and includes a front surface (6) for forming a side surface of the plate together with the front surfaces of the covering layers. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a layer plate.
