摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality monitoring device and an abnormality monitoring method capable of monitoring the occurrence of abnormality rapidly without using any torque sensors in a vehicle where each drive wheel is connected to the corresponding electric motor via a gear transmission mechanism. SOLUTION: A multiplication section 422 and a comparison section 434 determine the presence or absence of abnormality in a drive wheel to be monitored, based on roll acceleration d<SP>2</SP>p/dt<SP>2</SP>in a motor generator, weight (m) in a vehicle, and a total valueΣT<SB>m</SB><SP>*</SP>in target torque. When the comparison section 434 determines that the drive wheel to be monitored is not "normal", addition sections 424, 426, 428, 430, 432 and comparison sections 436, 438, 440, 442, 444 successively calculate the estimation value of the roll acceleration for each of a plurality of gears for composing a reduction gear, based on the synthetic value of inertia in elements present in a power transmission path from an output shaft to each gear and the corresponding target torque T<SB>m</SB><SP>*</SP>, and successively compares the calculated estimation value with actually measured roll acceleration d<SP>2</SP>p/dt<SP>2</SP>, thus specifying an abnormal part.
