The packaging atmosphere has a high oxygen concentration. A packaging for living shellfish or crustaceans comprises a gastight, leak-free, sealed vessel containing a gas atmosphere comprising at least 70 vol.% or more oxygen. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) First packaging method for living shellfish or crustaceans, using a gas atmosphere comprising 70-100 vol.% oxygen; and (2) Second packaging method for living shellfish or crustaceans, comprising placing the animals in a container, flushing the vessel with a preserving atmosphere and sealing the vessel so that it is gastight and leak-free. |
