PURPOSE: An image acquisition apparatus of a portable terminal and method thereof are provided to offer an image acquisition function with other application functions at the same time by independently constituting a camera processing unit and an application processing unit. CONSTITUTION: A camera processing unit(102) includes a camera sensor(104) and an image storage unit(108). The image storage unit stores images acquired through the camera sensor. The camera processing unit is independently executed with an application processing unit(100). The application processing unit is independently executed with the camera processing unit. The application processing unit executes a specific application which is provided by the camera processing unit.
