A photovoltaic device ( 100, 200 ) for photoelectric conversion of incident solar light is provided. The photoelectric device ( 100, 200 ) includes a transparent substrate ( 102, 202 ) having a substantially flat surface, and a textured layer ( 104, 204 ) on the flat surface of the transparent substrate ( 102, 202 ) to form light trapping structures. Thereafter, the photoelectric device ( 100, 200 ) includes a barrier layer ( 106, 246 ) on the textured layer ( 104, 204 ). The barrier layer ( 106, 206 ) is impermeable to one or more fluids released by the textured layer ( 104, 204 ). Further, the photoelectric device ( 100, 200 ) includes one or more semiconductor layers ( 110, 112, 114, 210, 212, 214, 216, 218 ) on the barrier layer ( 106, 206 ). The barrier layer ( 106, 206 ) prevents contamination of the one or more semiconductor layers ( 110, 112, 114, 210, 212, 214, 216, 218 ) from the one or more fluids. Finally, the photoelectric device ( 100, 200 ) includes a cover substrate ( 116 ) on the one or more semiconductor layers ( 110, 112, 114, 210, 212, 214, 216, 218 ). |
