The method involves delivering a quantity of bulk product with unknown position characteristic at the receiving station. The bulk product is transferred by a conveying unit (4). A preferred direction of the bulk product is produced by a mechanical separating device. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying and establishing a position characteristic of a bulk product in a conveying direction for bulk product.
