Method and device for producing nanostructured surfaces

The method involves providing an article (3) with a surface area (4) to be structured. A short-pulse laser radiation (15) is generated with laser pulses including pulse durations shorter than 10 picoseconds by a short-pulse laser (16) i.e. sapphire laser. The radiation is directed onto the surface such that a fluence of each pulse is smaller than multi-shot threshold fluence for a multi-shot laser ablation and the radiation over nonlinear effects that produce defects in the article, where a local compression of the article and a structuring of the surface are carried out. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing nano-structure surface areas.
