A mobile terminal for protecting location information and a method thereof are provided to protect location information of a user by preventing an indiscreet leakage of location information caused by executing a location information application program. A location information application program unit(14) includes application programs providing various location information services by using location information managed by a positioning module unit. A location information providing manager(15) calls a platform API to perform a function of requesting permission/prevention of checking location information according to a request of a terminal user, registers and manages each location information application program information executed in a mobile terminal, displays a message inquiring whether to provide location information with respect to a location information application program on a screen, and provides determination information regarding whether to provide location information determined by the terminal user. A terminal platform(12) performs permission/prevention of checking location information with respect to a positioning module unit(11) according to a request of the location information providing manager, determines whether to provide location information, and provides location information to the location information application program unit or informs that providing of the location information is prevented. |
