发明名称 Improvements relating to fastening devices
摘要 537,644. Bolting. TINNERMAN PRODUCTS, Inc. May 13, 1940, No. 8579. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1939. [Classes 44 and 89 (i)] Fastenings such as sheet metal nuts for use in cases where the rear of the work is inaccessible are put in place through special assembly holes in which they are held by the combined action of a spring tongue and an offset shoulder. The nut is made from a blank 10, Fig. 6, stamped with an offset 20 with screw thread engaging tongues 11, 12 and with spring tongues 15, 17, the latter being bent up to form an article-engaging abutment 16. The sides of the blank are compressed at 25, 26 to form projecting ribs that prevent the nut from passing completely through the assembly hole 2. The nut is inserted in the canted position shown in Fig. 1 and is swung down to the position shown in Fig. 4 in which it is retained by the combined action of the offset 20, the abutment 16 on the spring tongue 17 and the ribs 26. In a modification the blank has a perforation in which a clinch nut is anchored. In a further modification, the side tongues 15 are dispensed with; the thread engaging portion is formed by a circular orifice deformed to suit the thread helix as permitted by a narrow lateral slot; the ribs 26 are replaced by lugs on the stamped-out. blank; the tongue 17 is replaced by a tongue 63, Fig. 11, between side lugs 61, 62. The device may have a spring tongue 70, Fig. 12, for clamping a rod or cable R and in this case the other end is bent at 72 to engage a second thread.
