Cosmetic composition (I) in the form of an emulsion for topical application on keratin materials, especially skin, comprises: (a) at least one dispersion of bismuth oxychloride (CI 77163) in an oil comprising monoesters (a1), and/or (a2) polar oils having the solubility parameter (delta a) at 25[deg] C of greater than 6 (J/cm 3>) 1> > 2>; and (b) at least one oil comprising hydrocarbon oils having a refractive index of more than 1.42 and a solubility parameter (delta a) at 25[deg] C of greater than 1 (J/cm 3>) 1> > 2>, and/or phenylated silicone oils in a medium. Cosmetic composition (I) in the form of an emulsion for topical application on keratin materials, especially skin, comprises: (a) at least one dispersion of bismuth oxychloride (CI 77163) in an oil comprising monoesters of formula (R1COOR2) (a1), and/or (a2) polar oils having the solubility parameter (delta a) at 25[deg] C of greater than 6 (J/cm 3>) 1> > 2>; and (b) at least one oil comprising hydrocarbon oils having a refractive index of more than 1.42 and a solubility parameter (delta a) at 25[deg] C of greater than 1 (J/cm 3>) 1> > 2>, and/or phenylated silicone oils in a medium. R1 : 4-40C, preferably 7-20C hydrocarbon chain; and R2 : 3-40C, preferably 16-26C hydrocarbon chain. An independent claim is included for preparing an emulsion comprising: introducing a bismuth oxychloride dispersion (pre-dispersion) comprising bismuth oxychloride (68-72 wt.%) in 2-ethylhexyl hydroxystearate (28-32 wt.%) into the fatty phase; separately preparing aqueous phase; and stirring the emulsion at room temperature using a deflocculator on Rayneri.
