<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intersection monitoring system for reducing power consumption of a mobile terminal device and capable of distributing traffic information about traffic near an intersection to the mobile terminal device in a simple configuration, easily and certainly, and to provide the mobile terminal device. <P>SOLUTION: An intersection monitoring system 100 comprises: an intersection base station 1 disposed in the vicinity of an intersection 200; a gate station 2 having transmission means for transmitting a signal in an LF band to a movable body 5 which passes through a point G separated by a predetermined distance from the intersection 200 of roads which form the intersection 200; and a mobile terminal device 3 moving with the movable body 5. The mobile terminal device 3 has: reception means for receiving the signal in the LF band transmitted from the gate station 2; and terminal-device-side communication means for transmitting and receiving a signal in a frequency band higher than the LF band with respect to the intersection base station 1.
