Provided is a device for detecting a biomolecule which enables highly sensitive measurement. The device for detecting a biomolecule adopts a configuration wherein fluorescent molecules in a solution are aligned by laser irradiation and, by switching the laser irradiation direction, the direction of the transition moment of the fluorescent molecules is changed to the direction either parallel or perpendicular to the vibration direction of a linearly polarized excitation light. This configuration enables the switching between the case where the fluorescent molecules held by free molecules and binding molecules are excited and the case where the fluorescent molecules are not excited. Since there is a difference in alignment direction-switching rate, associated with a change in the laser irradiation direction, between molecules undergoing an antigen/antibody reaction and molecules not undergoing the same, the extent of contribution of the fluorescence emitted from the fluorescent molecules attached to the free molecules and the extent of contribution of the fluorescence emitted from the fluorescent molecules attached to the binding molecules can be calculated respectively. Thus, the concentration of a target substance to be detected can be measured at a high sensitivity.
|
