The system (10) has two exhaust line sections (14, 16) for respectively exhibiting exhaust gas at high and low temperature. Nitrogen oxide storage catalyst converters (18, 20) reduce pollutant contents in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine (12) of a motor car. A flow path from the internal combustion engine to one of the catalyst converters arranged in one of the exhaust line sections is prolonged than a flow path from the internal combustion engine to the other catalyst converter arranged in another exhaust line section. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine of a motor car.
