<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter for precisely adjusting a phase difference of respective polarized waves included in a polarized multiplex signal even in aligned and interleaved transmission systems. <P>SOLUTION: A first modulator 11 adjusts a phase of a first signal. A second modulator 12 adjusts a phase of a second signal. A composite portion 13 multiplexes a signal outputted from the first modulator 11 and a signal outputted from the second modulator 12 and generates and transmits a multiplex signal. A phase difference data generating portion 14 generates phase difference data corresponding to the phase difference between the signal outputted from the first modulator 11 and the signal outputted from the second modulator 12 based on the multiplex signal.
