<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect gasifier surfaces from corrosion. <P>SOLUTION: According to various embodiments, a system includes: a gasifier (106) that includes a shell (156) made of a first material exposed to a gasification region inside the gasifier; and a patterned anode layer (169) coupled to the shell (156) inside the gasifier (106).
