<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that reduces opportunities for a moving object to become out of sight even when a release time is long. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: focus detection means (S006); prediction calculation means (S010); control means for performing a lens drive based on prediction calculation results of the prediction calculation means (S011); and moving object detection means for detecting a moving object from two or more images photographed at the time of consecutive photographing as well as a position of a focus area where the moving object is located (S021). The moving object detection means determines whether the focus area where the moving object is located has been changed or not when the moving object is detected during the time of the consecutive photographing.
