<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust purification system for an internal combustion engine that can drastically reduce the amount of fuel required for filter regeneration control. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust purification system includes: an exhaust purification device provided with a DPF that collects a PM; and an ECU that estimates a PM deposition amount that is an amount of the PM deposited in the DPF, and executes filter regeneration control that raises the DPF in temperature to burn and remove the PM deposited in the DPF. The DPF has a PM oxidation catalyst configured by holding at least Ag on a composite oxide having an oxygen release capacity. The ECU initiates DPF regeneration control according to the PM deposition amount having exceeded a predetermined PM deposition limit amount of the DPF, and ends the DPF regeneration control which is thus initiated so that a PM of a predetermined PM residual amount remains in the DPF after the DPF regeneration control ends without being burned and removed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
