<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intuitively prompt a suitable steering operation to a driver when turning to the right or the left in a narrow road. <P>SOLUTION: A first threshold and a second threshold smaller than the first threshold are set according to distances y<SB POS="POST">T</SB>and y<SB POS="POST">R</SB>to running road boundaries and a distance y<SB POS="POST">i</SB>to the road for turning to the right or the left (S607, S608). When a distance y<SB POS="POST">i</SB>to the running road boundaries of turning inside on turning to the right or the left is shorter than the first threshold th1 (determination of S609 is "Yes"), a support torque is controlled and an avoiding operation for inhibiting approach to the running road boundaries is prompted to the driver (S612).
