The device (1) has a switching knife assembly (5) provided with a tensioning arrangement (7) and two separating knives (50), which are moved parallel to each other. The switching knife assembly is supported at a pivot point contact (31) and moved between an on-position and an off-position by a switching drive (6). The switching drive is coupled with the tensioning arrangement in such a manner that preload effective direction of the tensioning arrangement is directed against a switching operation of the switching drive. The tensioning arrangement is designed as a spring unit.
