<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film which can improve optical compensation performance through control of optical axis. <P>SOLUTION: An optical compensation film 1 comprises a base film 2, and an optical anisotropic layer 3 layered on at least one of surfaces of the base film 2. On a surface 2a of the base film 2 on which the optical anisotropic layer 3 is layered, multiple grooves, whose width and depth are 5 μm or less, are provided.
