<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a wasteful liquid consumption while efficiently discharging air and foreign matters together with a liquid from a discharging port. <P>SOLUTION: A sub tank 80 is communicated with an ink inflow passage 72 through an ink supply tube 82, and also communicated with a first exhaust passage 73 through a first ink return tube 83. The ink inflow passage 72 is communicated with an ink outflow passage 75 and the first exhaust passage 73. The ink outflow passage 75 is communicated with a plurality of discharging ports. A purge pump 86 forcibly supplying ink in the sub tank 80 to the ink inflow passage 72 is provided in the ink supply tube 82, and a valve 87 is provided in the first ink return tube 83. Driving the purge pump 86 in the state of the valve 87 being opened, circulates ink through the sub tank 80, the ink inflow passage 72, and the first exhaust passage 73 in this order.
