<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material excellent in heat insulating property, mechanical properties, and surface properties (such as adhesiveness and abrasion property) through the control of the functions of a porous film by setting the pore sizes and pore size distribution, and porosity ratio of the porous film within predetermined ranges. <P>SOLUTION: The porous material is the polymer porous film of a single layer, including a first pore size-changing portion 613 formed of independent pores showing a gradual increase in pore size across a region accounting for 10% or more of a film thickness from a first surface side 611 toward a second surface side 612. The polymer porous film excellent in heat insulating property, mechanical properties, and surface properties (such as adhesiveness and abrasion property) is provided through the control of the pore sizes of pores each formed of an independent foam structure so as to show a gradient change from the film surface.
