PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate bar monitoring device that monitors a gate bar and acquires the state of the gate bar more instantly.

SOLUTION: The gate bar monitoring device for monitoring the gate bar 204 includes: a sensor section for measuring the distance between a first position in the gate bar 204 and a second position in the gate bar 204 or a third position in an object other than the gate bar 204; and a gate bar information output section for outputting the gate bar information showing the measurement result of the sensor section. The state of the gate bar can be acquired even when the gate bar is stopped at a blocking position which is highly likely to break the bar.
