<p>A steering system (10) includes a steer-by -wire (SBW) valve (2), main steering pump (22), steering actuator (24), and steering control unit (SCU) (12). The SCU (12) is in fluid communication with actuator (24) via fluid conduits (52 and 152), and includes an upper portion (14) and lower portion (13). The upper portion (14) contains a first solenoid valve (58) and a cross-over check valve assembly (56). The lower portion (13) contains fluid control valve (44). An ECU (18) generates steering input signal (40) in response to steering wheel (11) rotation, and transmits signal (40) to the SBW valve (20). The SCU (12) controls the first solenoid valve (58) to deliver fluid from the lower portion (13) to the actuator (24) via the cross-over valve assembly (56) in an emergency steering mode, and also controls the first solenoid valve (58) to prevent flow into the actuator (24) and allow recirculation of fluid within the lower portion (13) in a torque feel mode.</p> |
