<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solar battery which can reduce the loss of carriers and can achieve a higher energy conversion efficiency than before, and to provide a method for manufacturing the solar battery, by which a light absorption layer having quantum dots can be formed in a relatively low temperature process by a method requiring no vacuum equipment nor a complicated device, such as coating or printing. <P>SOLUTION: A solar battery of the present invention has a light absorption layer including quantum dots in a matrix layer. The light absorption layer is connected with an N-type semiconductor layer at one end, and is connected with a P-type semiconductor layer at the other end. In the light absorption layer, the quantum dots are made of a nanocrystal semiconductor. The quantum dots are well uniformly distributed and regularly spaced apart from one another in three dimensions so that between adjacent quantum dots, wave functions are superimposed on one another to form an intermediate band.
