<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planetary gear device for reducer which prevents breakage of a pin press-fitted into a retaining pin hole provided in a pinion shaft, in operation. <P>SOLUTION: The pinion shaft 5 has the retaining pin hole 5a provided at the end, and is made of a high carbon chromium bearing steel SUJ2. The amount of retained austenite in a surface layer of the center part in the axial direction of the pinion shaft 5 is less than 16 vol.%.
