<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface illumination device of a side light type suitable for segment lighting. <P>SOLUTION: The surface illumination device 10 is provided with a rectangular flat plate-like light guide plate 11 and a plurality of LEDs 21 (first LED row 22 and second LED row 23) arranged so as to respectively form rows along a pair of the side end faces (first light incident face 12 and second light incident face 13) of the light guide plate 11 opposed to each other. In the light guide plate 11, a streak protruded part 16 which is linearly extended to the second light incident face 13 from the first light incident face 12 on an emitting face 14 and a reflecting face 15 which are a pair of main flat faces is repeatedly formed along the longitudinal direction of the first light incident face 12. Moreover, on the second streak protruded part 18 which is the streak protruded part on the side of the reflecting face 15, a plurality of dot type streak protruded parts 19 are superposed. Then, a plurality of LEDs 21 are divided into several groups and, based on a signal from a drive circuit of the liquid crystal panel which is illuminated body, only LEDs 21 of a selected group can be lighted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
