FIXING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a service life of a fixing belt used with a resistance heat generating type fixing device disposed inside a circumferential path of the fixing belt in which a pressing member such as a pressure roller includes a resistance heat generating layer and an electrode for supplying power to the resistance heat generating layer are disposed.

SOLUTION: A fixing device comprises: a pressure roller 150 disposed inside a circumferential path of an endless fixing belt 154 including a resistance heat generating layer; and a pressuring roller 160 pressing the pressure roller 150 from the outside of the circumferential path of the fixing belt 154 to form a fixing nip. A recording sheet formed with an image to be fixed thereon is caused to pass through the fixing nip to fix the image with heat. The fixing belt 154 has a pressure area which is pressed by the pressure roller 150 and the pressure roller 160 and non-pressure areas located at the outer sides of the pressure area in a direction perpendicular to the circumferential path. An electrode layer 154e is formed on the circumference surfaces of the pressure areas for supplying power to the resistance heat generating layer.
