<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian collision detector capable of preventing an increase in mass of a vehicle even if a detection area of collision of a pedestrian is expanded outside a vehicle width direction and improving a pedestrian foot protecting performance. <P>SOLUTION: The detector includes an absorber 20 to be deformed between a bumper cover 16 and a bumper reinforcement 14 when the vehicle collides with a pedestrian and a pressure chamber 18. A change in pressure of the pressure chamber 18 is detected by the pressure sensor, and it is determined whether the vehicle collides with a pedestrian on the basis of the output of the pressure sensor. In the bumper reinforcement 14, corner portions 32 disposed on the outside of the vehicle width from a pair of crash boxes 15 on right and left to which the bumper reinforcement 14 is attached are formed to have rigidity lower than that of a general-purpose portion 30 arranged on the inside of the vehicle width from the corner portions 32. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
