A light emitting diode (LED) dimmer includes a luminance setting device, a luminance detector, and a controller. The outputs of the luminance setting device and the luminance detector connect with the input of the controller. When the LED dimmer is in the luminance setting status, the common input of the luminance setting device and the luminance detector connects with the input of the dimmer electrically; the luminance detector is used for detecting the luminance value of the current environment, the controller is used for receiving the target luminance value of the illuminated area and the luminance value of the current environment. When the luminance value of the current environment is smaller than the target luminance value of the illuminated area, calculating the difference between them, obtaining the luminance target value of the LED itself, obtaining the drive current target value of the LED according to the corresponding relationship between the luminance of the LED itself and the drive current, and outputting a current adjusting signal to the driving power of the LED which reflects the drive current target value of the LED.
