<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To put a shallow score to glass by passing laser beams on its surface. <P>SOLUTION: The first beam 32 is formed by operating a laser 30. The first beam 32 is converted by a lens 34 to form a second beam 36 having an elongated elliptic beam spot having a major axis and minor axis at a place where the beam is made incident on the glass. A part of the second beam corresponding to the end of the second beam 36 is physically shut off to reduce the major axis of the spot of the second beam and to form a third beam 37. The third beam 37 is moved over the surface of the glass 10 to form the heated glass. A cooling liquid 24 is run from a nozzle 22 onto the heated glass at a prescribed distance from the rear edge of the moving third beam 37, by which a crack 20 is formed in the glass 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
