<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus provided with a polishing device which makes it hard to generate uneven polishing on the surface of an image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1, including an image carrier 10b which an electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface and a liquid development device 9b for supplying a liquid developer to the image carrier 10b, further comprises a polishing device 30b which is arranged in contact with the image carrier 10b so as to form a nip part ND with the image carrier 10b and polishes the surface of the image carrier 10b. The polishing device 30b comprises: an elastic roller 302 constituted by a foam resin on whose surface a porous body 302a is formed; and abrasive particles 303 which have a Mohs hardness of 3 to 6 and are adhered to the surface of the elastic roller 302.
