PURPOSE: An azo pigment has superior tinting strength, color and reproducibility. Moreover, the storage stability of a pigment dispersion, and the stability of the size of pigment particles, and ink liquid stability are excellent. CONSTITUTION: An azo pigment is selected from the group consisting of: an azo pigment or a tautomer thereof in the chemical formula 1, in CuKα X-ray diffraction, which has the characteristic diffraction peaks at the Bragg angle of (2&thgr;±0.2°) 6.9°, 21.5° and 27.3°, and of which peak height at 10.9° is 0.6 or less and the salt of the azo pigment, and hydrate or solvate; an azo pigment or a tautomer thereof in the chemical formula 1, in CuKα X-ray diffraction, which has the characteristic diffraction peaks at the Bragg angle of (2&thgr;±0.2°) 6.9°, 25.8° and 27.1°, and of which peak height 10.9° is 0.2 or less and the salt of the azo pigment, and hydrate or solvate.
