A cartridge changer 200 for a plurality of cartridges comprises a cartridge holder 202 having a plurality of receptacles, each adapted to receive one of the plurality of cartridges 100a, 100b, 100c, 100c, 100d, 100e, 100f; and a pair of fittings 204a, 204b adapted to releasably engage one of the plurality of cartridges to allow for fluids to be passed over the cartridge. Each cartridge may comprise a chromatography column. The receptacles may be arranged radially or linearly on the holder. An actuator 208, 210 may be provided, which is adapted to position the holder for engagement of one of the cartridges. The pair of fittings may be female fittings coupled to a mass spectrometer, and may be mounted on one of a pair of arms 206a, 206b. A control device may be provided, to control actuation of the holder and the fittings to enable the selection of a specific cartridge. The control device may be programmable with user instructions, and may be configured to select a new cartridge when a substantially elevated pressure is detected. The cartridge changer may be used to allow replacement of a cartridge without user interaction, and may be configured to provide a report, which indicates how many times each of the cartridges was used.
