The invention relates to a cemented carbide insert intended for chip removing machining, in particular turning, which comprises an upper side (1), an under side (2), and a number of side surfaces extending between the same, as well as a cutting edge (3a, 3b), which includes a nose edge (5) and two main edges (4) converging toward the same and is included in an inset (14), which consists of a material that is harder than the cemented carbide, and which is countersunk in the surrounding cemented carbide and co-ground with the same. The inset (14) is arranged in a front, wedge-shaped head (7), which is delimited by one chip surface (71) and two clearance surfaces (72) running along the main edges (4), as well as transforms into a postjacent body part (8) via limiting surfaces (81, 82) situated inside imaginary planes in the extension of said chip and clearance surfaces (71, 72). By placing the inset in such a head, the requisite grinding is reduced to a minimum. In addition, the invention relates to a blank for the manufacture of cutting inserts of the kind in question. |
