[Class 60] A machine for grinding or polishing lenses comprises a hollow body a, Fig. 4, containing liquid loaded with grinding medium and having an annular lap d on its edge, a lens holder or holders with means for moving them relatively to the lap and an impellor blade or blades for circulating the liquid. The body a may be rotated, the holder g, to which the lenses hare fixed by adhesive, may be carried by a disc j, which is free to rotate about a centre 3, and the liquid may be circulated by blades s, driven by a shaft 5, over the lap and back by passages z. In a modification the lap is formed on an inner cup c, Fig. 3, supported by legs b<SP>1</SP> in the body a, the liquid returning through the space e; and the disc which may be fixed or rotated, is moved by an eccentric mounted on the end of the shaft 5 and engaging a central hole therein. In another modification each lens may be mounted on a separate holder o, which is moved by a crank x, or a number of such holders is engaged by a corresponding number of pins y mounted on the disc j. Loss of liquid is prevented by a rubber band v.
