The present invention relates to beverage cartridge with a brewing chamber of greater length than previous designs, allowing for greater control over brewing. The cartridge 10 can be used for preparing beverages, e.g. coffee, tea, and liquid food products e.g. soups, custards, sauces. The cartridge 10 comprises a continuous elongate tubular chamber 13 containing the at least one ingredient. The cartridge 10 provides a fluid flow path linking an inlet 14 for the introduction of liquid at one end of the chamber 13 to an outlet 15 for discharge of beverage, or food product, at an opposite end. The chamber 13 has an internal width to length ratio in the range of 1:4 to 1:200, and so is elongate. The chamber 13 may be in the form of a spiral. The chamber 13 may include a plurality of interconnecting compartments (26, fig 6) each containing at least one ingredient. The ingredient may be provided as a partially soluble coating on at least a part of an inner surface of the chamber 13, or may be solid particles. Flow control in the form of restriction to the internal diameter of the chamber 13 may also be provided. |
