PURPOSE: A method for detecting a defect in a brushless exciter for the generator and a system thereof are provided to display an error or a malfunction in a diode when the deviation of heat energy exceeds a critical deviation level. CONSTITUTION: A diode rectifier(30) is electrically combined with an alternating current source and generates a current which is applied to the field winding(12) of a rotor(13) in an electric machine(14). A plurality of resistances(33) is respectively connected in parallel with a diode(32) in the diode rectifier. A plurality of temperature sensors(42) gets near to a plurality of resistances and senses a heat energy from the resistances and generates a temperature signal which displays the detected heat energy of the resistance adjacent to the sensor. A controller(20) receives temperature data which displays the temperature signal from the resistances and detects one malfunction or defect from the diode based on the temperature data.
