METHOD OF PERFORMING A HANDOVER IN A BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method for performing a handover in a wireless access system is provided to prevent an unnecessary handover by determining whether a corresponding station performs the handover or not using a timer in a handover trigger process. CONSTITUTION: An AMS(Advanced Mobile Station) applies a correction value obtained by a scan response message to the scanning result of a TBS(Target Base Station)(S305). The AMS transmits the corrected scanning result to an SBS(Serving Base Station) through the scan response message(S306). The SBS determines whether the TBS is suitable for the handover or not by using the corrected scanning result. If the TBS is not suitable for the handover, the SBS does not trigger the handover(S307).
