<p>To address the need for a versatile, robust, information-rich technology for the analysis of chemical and biological samples of interest in astrobiology investigations, we propose the development of a portable analytical instrument, based on capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CE-MS). The main advantages of separation-MS techniques include their ability to separate salts and other compounds that can suppress or interfere with analytes of interests, better quantitation through integration of chromatographic or electrophoretic peaks, and increased separation and identification of isomers such as amino acid enantiomers that are used in biological dating of astrobiologically interesting samples.</p> |
