<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed reducer that can be compactly composed with a simple structure, that has smooth sliding force, and that can be manufactured at a low cost, in the speed reducer in a slide rail having a retracting function. <P>SOLUTION: The speed reducer is composed of a self reset type cylinder damper installed in a fixed side member and an operation body installed in a fixed side member to act on the cylinder damper, in the slide rail having the retracting function. When a movable side member reaches a retracting position, the operation body displaces so that the piston shaft of the cylinder damper is pushed in. When the movable side member is retracted to a prescribed position, the displacement motion of the operation body stops to release the speed reducing function, and the stopped state is maintained until the movable side member reaches the retraction completing position. The displacement attitude is maintained at the retraction completing position until the movable side member is drawn from the retraction completing position to the prescribed position.
