The method involves subjecting moist soil to be treated by drying process by a drying unit e.g. fluid steam dryer, in the absence of air. A set of substances in the vapor is vaporized in a decontaminator (8) in a fluidized bed. A part of surplus vapor is supplied as vapor. Exhaust steam from two stages are supplied to a condenser (11) where pollutant-specific separation takes place among condensed pollutants and aqueous condensate.
