<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for capturing a canted coil spring, such as a housing having a groove for holding a canted coil spring for mechanical connections and/or electrical contact applications, which overcomes various problems associated with conventional techniques. <P>SOLUTION: A completed groove or simple housing groove 38 is formed by a combination of a first housing section 14 and a second housing section 16. The groove 38 comprises two tapered sidewalls 22, 26 at an end postion and a bottom wall 33 that is apart from a canted coil spring 18.
