Provided is a communication system in which certificate verification time is reduced. A communication system (10) includes an authentication station (100) for performing authentication, a roadside device (110), a vehicle-mounted terminal (120), a first server (130), and a second server (140). The vehicle-mounted terminal transmits position information thereof to the first server. The authentication station acquires from the first server information on vehicle-mounted terminals which have a high appearance possibility in accordance with a place and a time, and confirms with the second server whether the certificates of the vehicle-mounted terminals acquired from the first server have expired. The authentication station creates, on the basis of the confirmation result and for each place and each time, a first list of vehicle-mounted terminals that have valid certificates and a second list of vehicle-mounted terminals that have invalid certificates, and transmits the first list and the second list to the roadside devices and the vehicle-mounted terminal devices. The roadside devices and the vehicle-mounted terminal devices use the received first list and second list to verify certificates. It is therefore possible to reduce certificate verification time.
