<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow variation in physical information used for reducing the time for biological authentication in 1:N authentication, that is, to effectively narrow down physical information even when the physical information varies when biological information used for biological authentication (comparison) is narrowed down utilizing physical information. <P>SOLUTION: In the biological authentification method using feature information, data is registered beforehand by associating user biological information with physical information; the user physical information is utilized at the time of biological authentication; biological information from data in the vicinity of the physical information at the time of the authentication is compared; and the time required for subsequent authentication is reduced by updating the registered physical information if there is a difference of a predetermined amount or more between the physical information at the time of the authentication and the registered physical information.
