<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device having complex functions, capable of introducing the functions by providing functional descriptions on a display randomly to a user who is not aware of the functions implemented on the device. <P>SOLUTION: A clamshell mobile phone generates a random number when it detects an open state. The mobile phone determines whether the random number is more or less of a number of the functional descriptions (record number) stored in a database. If the generated random number is equal to or more than the record number, the mobile phone creates an index in accordance with the record number. If the generated random number is less than the record number, the mobile phone use the generated random number as an index. When the index is created, a functional description matching to the number designated by the index is read from the database.
